Resistance in Series Circuits
Resistance in a Series Circuit is Additive
Resistance in a series circuit is said to be additive. That means to find
the total resistance in any series circuit, just add up the resistances of each
component in that circuit.
Here is the formula for resistance total in a series circuit with 4
components:
Rt= R1 + R2 + R3 + R4
If you know the total resistance and all the component resistances except
one, then here are formulas for a circuit with 4 components:
R1 = Rt - R2 - R3 - R4
R2 = Rt - R1 - R3 - R4
R3 = Rt - R1 - R2 - R4
R4 = Rt - R1 - R2 - R3
